Honeycutt-Spears, Valarie. Lexington Herald-Leader, Sept. 27, 2006, pg. A8.

Four times more children in state foster care were adopted in 2005 than in 2001. The rate of increase was the same between blacks and whites, according to numbers provided by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

In 2001, of children exiting foster care, 30 or 5.1 percent of black children were adopted. In 2001, 109, or 3.5 percent of white children were adopted.

In 2005, of children exiting foster care, 126 or 12.5 percent of all black children were adopted. In 2005, 581 or 13.2 percent of white children were adopted.
